Embracing Our Present Triumph: The Fulfilled Promises of Christ
Beloved Congregation in Christ,
Grace and peace to you, redeemed saints who dwell securely within the fulfilled promises of our Lord and King, Jesus Christ.
I write to you now, not to engage in vain disputations nor to wrestle with flesh and blood, but rather to declare plainly the spiritual riches of what our God has already accomplished. Many voices arise today, preaching future fear instead of present triumph, expecting bodily graves to yield fleshly resuscitations instead of covenantal victory realized fully in our risen Christ.
Yet, dear brethren, let us hold fast to the clarity of Holy Scripture:
The Apostle Paul, in his divine clarity, contrasts the earthly and heavenly, temporal and eternal, corruptible and incorruptible. He proclaims with unwavering conviction:
“For we have known that if the tent of our earthly house may be thrown down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands—continuous in the heavens. For also in this we groan, earnestly desiring to clothe ourselves with our dwelling that is from Heaven…so that the mortal may be swallowed up by life.” (2 Corinthians 5:1-4, LSV).
Paul’s desire is not for a refurbished mortal body, but a heavenly dwelling—a new creation existence found only in Christ. He declares emphatically elsewhere:
“And this I say, brothers, that flesh and blood are not able to inherit the Kingdom of God, nor does corruption inherit incorruption…It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body; there is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:50, 44, LSV).
Our Lord Jesus Himself defined resurrection life:
“The one believing in Me, even if he may die, will live; and everyone who is living and believing in Me may not die—throughout the age.” (John 11:25-26, LSV).
Thus, the resurrection spoken of by the Apostles is not a distant, flesh-bound hope, but a glorious spiritual reality, the inheritance of those who now dwell in Christ, the firstborn of the new creation. For has He not already raised us spiritually from death into life?
“You being dead in trespasses and sins…He made you alive together with Christ.” (Ephesians 2:1,5, LSV).
“If anyone [is] in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things passed away, behold, all things have become new!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, LSV).
Indeed, beloved, the promise has been fulfilled—Sheol emptied, death defeated, and the saints clothed eternally in the righteousness and life of Christ. Do not look for physical graves to burst open; instead, rejoice that your mortality has already been swallowed up by eternal life in Jesus our Lord.
Let not your hearts be troubled nor deceived by fearmongers who proclaim fallen angels and earthly catastrophes. These powers have long since been cast down, stripped of their authority, disarmed, and defeated. Their threats hold no terror for those sheltered in Christ’s victory.
“Having stripped the principalities and the authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, having triumphed over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15, LSV).
Our world, created by the Word of God, stands secure forever, established by His eternal decree
[Who] laid the foundations of the earth, [that] it should not be removed for ever. (Psalm 104:5)
[One] generation passeth away, and [another] generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. (Ecclesiastes 1:4)
It is Christ’s inheritance, a Kingdom without end, an everlasting dominion
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion [is] an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed. (Daniel 7:14).
Thus, we live not awaiting destruction, but firmly established in the fulfillment of His promises.
Let us therefore cast off the burdensome chains of creedal confusion and fleshly interpretations, embracing instead the freedom of covenant fulfillment in Christ alone. Our resurrection is not a distant dream, but a present truth.
Stand firm, therefore, beloved, clothed fully in Christ, assured that death is conquered, judgment fulfilled, and life eternal already yours.
With unwavering confidence in the fulfilled covenant promises of our Lord, I remain your fellow servant and brother,
In Christ alone, our victory,
Amen.
